Notices for Sunday 17 Feb

On Friday 15 Fenruary 2008, we had the privilege of welcoming John Prescott MP back to St John’s, together with the European Commissioner for Regional Policy (Danuta Hubner) from Poland. Our Hot Gospel Choir gave another outstanding performance, which literally stopped JP & DH in their tracks as they were about to leave!

Youth. Some of you may know that we have received funding from Community Initiative until the end of June to fund a youth project. Whilst the timing has been tight, PTL we now have three part-time youth workers in place, Chris & Anne Clarke (St. Aidan’s) and Julia Clapp (Vineyard). They have a variety of talents between them, and have the vision of working with 20-30 children in the area between the ages of 8-13 to put on a show at the beginning of July. They hope to develop singing, music, dance and other skills during that time, and plan to meet early Sunday afternoon and one evening a week, as well as getting involved in local schools. The funding is already in place, and the first workshop is planned for Sunday week (March 2).

Art. Doug Smelt is our ‘resident’ artist, and son of Brian Smelt (Chair of Chairs of the Pact Boards). He is planning to increase interest in the arts via art workshops in Church for school groups, and a series of exhibitions. The current paintings are coming down, but watch this space!

Growth Group. At our last meeting, we agreed to study Nehemiah, using workbooks from Scripture Union in the Lifebuilder Bible Studies series. Cost £3.99. I have ordered 6 copies for those who were there last Wednesday. If you would like a copy (and weren’t there), let me know. Meeting at Antoine & Jo’s again this Wednesday, and until further notice. 140 Summergangs Road. 7.30

Easter Praise. (Some) reminder cards available for this on your seats for this production at City Hall (Sunday 23/3 @ 7 p.m.). Tickets free. Hot Gospel will be there. Do go – see you there!

Cross. At my request, Jonathan Hobson, our architect, has designed a cross for us to hang from the East End wall above the altar, and using some of our old wood. Copy on the notice board at the back of Church. Let me know what you think. To be discussed at our next DCC meeting (Wednesday 27th Feb).

Riding Lights Roughshod Theatre Co will be putting on a special performance at St Aidan’s on Friday week (29/2) entitled ‘Hope Street’. Admission £5, concession £3. Contact 374403 for tickets. Performance time 7.30 p.m.

Underneath the Stars. Last performance of Ruth by Credo this Saturday at 7.30 p.m. To book call 07837 591381, (or see any member of Credo). Flyer at back of Church for more details. Excellent production. John S tells me tickets are going fast, and who have not booked tickets (£5, £4 conc.) beforehand may have to sit at the back. http://www.credoarts.org.uk/ for more info.

Electoral Roll. Forms available if you aren’t yet on our ER and would like to be. This is the roll of our Church members which is updated annually before the Annual Meeting, which this year is on April 20th @ St Columba 6.30 p.m. Wiggy is our ER officer – see her for more info.

Nick Whetton who is the senior Prison Chaplain will be with us next Sunday (24 Feb), and will be speaking at both Holy Communion (9.30) and All Age Worship (10.30). A good opportunity to meet him, and find out more about his work.

Happy birthday retrospectively to Jane Crook, whose birthday it was on Tuesday (12th).
