Notices - week beginning 10/08/08
Welcome to Holy Communion (9.30), followed by Breakfast Club+ (10.30), which this Sunday is on the theme of Zacchaeus ('the Cheat's house').
Christening. There will also be a christening today at 12.30 pm of Travis Robinson, from Estcourt Street. His mum & dad will be getting married here at St John's on December 27th.
Champion's Challenge (August 19-23). We are very sorry, but our Champion's Challenge Holiday club has had to be cancelled as Bruce & Christine Paterson are no longer able to come. Their daughter has given birth to a baby who is seriously ill, and they feel they must stay with her instead.
Holiday Club service (August 24th). This will now be a Morning Worship service instead, but with a special activity during the 'Children's spot'.
Soul Survivor. We are pleased that Nick (Carter) is able to go to the Soul Survivor C camp at Shepton Mallet (Somerset) next Saturday (16th), returning on Thursday 21st.
Growth Group. Why not come along to our Growth Group at Antoine & Jo's on Wednesday? Address: 140 Summergangs, starting at 8 pm. You'd be v. welcome.
Path. As you can see, almost all of the work has now been done on extending our Church path. A big improvement.
Day off. In case you didn't know, my day off has been Friday until now. I believe it's right to switch to Saturdays in future though to be able to spend more time with Ann & Ruth.
Rugby club teas. We do need help to put on teas for the E. Hull Rugby supporters on ten Saturdays until the end of the year. The time commitment is approx 2-4 pm, and the first Saturday is Saturday week (23rd). The burger man is not expected to be there this season, so the Committee are looking to us instead. Let's not disappoint them.
Parish magazines at the back of Church - help yourself.
Hot Gospel Choir. Advance notice that there will be a Hot Gospel Choir event on Saturday October 11th (7.30-9 pm). It should be a good occasion, and an opportunity to invite friends who don't normally come to St John's.
Back to Church Sunday/Alpha. A reminder that this is on September 28th, and coincides with the start of our Alpha Course. This is a 10 week introductory course to Christian faith, and is for anyone. It starts on Sept 28th at St. John's with a buffet lunch from 12.30. Sessions are on DVD, and we finish by 3pm. There will be a crèche facility. If you want to give it a try, without committing to the full course, that's also fine.
Church clean. Next one will be next Saturday, Aug 16th (9.30-12 noon). Volunteers needed.
Wiggy invites us to join her in celebrating her 50th birthday on Monday 18th August at St John's from 7.30pm to 11pm. An informal bring and share (food and drink) evening with a disco. RSVP tel. 898150, mob; 07882265875
Tea/coffee. Your contributions towards the cost of tea/coffee, biscuits etc appreciated in future.
Banns of marriage. Stephen Kilgour/Rachel Taylor & Jamie Alfred John Doyle/Hayley Maria Emson (of St Augustine Hedon). Both couples marrying on September 13th.
Sun 17th Aug Walk Hull Fish Trail. Optional pub supper afterwards. Meet 3pm at Tourist Office by City Hall.
Next Sunday. Morning Worship (10.30 am). Christening (12.30 pm).

Notices – week beginning 13/07/08
Music. Antoine & Jo are away this Sunday, so we’re grateful to Elaine & Andy (Creamer) for covering for us instead.
Welcome back to Alisha Wilkinson after about 3 months of being tied up almost continuously with course work for her training in sociology. Also to Tom Hill, a long-standing member of St John’s, following the funeral service of his wife, Doreen, on Thursday.
Newsletter. I hope you enjoy reading our first newsletter which will go out for general circulation later this month. This is a new initiative to try and get the work of St John’s more widely known in the area. Do let me have your comments.
Healing ministry won’t be available this Sunday because of the tight turnaround between services today. However, next Sunday we’ll be back to ‘normal’, when Jason will be leading and preaching in my absence.
Growth Group will be at Jo & Antoine’s as usual on Wednesday @ 7.30 p.m. Do come if you can. It would be good to see more folk supporting this. Bible study this week - Nehemiah 8.
Ann is still away at her mother’s until Tuesday. Ruthie and I are surviving, but it’ll be v. good to see her back! Ann’s mother’s doing fine following her hip operation.
Back to Church Sunday is September 28th when we are encouraged to bring at least one other person to Church who may have lapsed or not had any previous interest. Do think and pray about this now (it’s not too soon). Our hope is that many of these folk will also be willing to stay on for a buffet lunch, and to attend the first session of our Alpha course. If you’ve not done Alpha yourself, this is a good opportunity to do so. More details to follow.
Breakfast Club+. Do stay on for Breakfast Club+ today if you can. The theme is Martha & Mary, and we’re grateful to Andy Creamer for joining us once again to help out.
Local walks. Today - Lunch (£5.25) and 2 – 3 mile walk at Burton Pidsea. Let Norman Pacey know if you are going (07749 485427). Monday 21st July. Very short walk at Paull and pub supper. Meet at 6:30pm at St Columba. Let Lorelli know if you are coming (323840).
Zimbabwe. Do continue to remember Nomsa and her family in your prayers. The situation is if anything worse than ever, with the international community seemingly unable (or unwilling) to come up with a solution to the political problem caused by the recent elections. A reminder that if you are praying by name for Nomsa’s family, they are Libone, Liqonde, Sanele and Khanyi, and her mother is Simipi. Remember too that the appeal to give freewill support to Nomsa is still open with yellow envelopes at the back of Church. Please give if you haven’t yet done so, or if you think you can give more. Envelopes put into the collection will mean we can give Nomsa the gift aid money on top if you are a taxpayer. NB. Nomsa’s birthday is on the 21st (Monday week).
Morning Worship. Another reminder that this month, we are experimenting with a new style Morning Worship service, which will include a short act of Holy Communion and healing ministry with anointing with oil. In order to trial this service, and prior to discussion at DCC, both next Sunday (20th) and Sunday week (27th), this will be the 10.30 a.m. service. This means that there will be no Holy Communion (9.30) & no All Age Worship (10.30) on 4th Sunday. Do let me have your comments.
Project Phase 2 is going well (as you can see). They’re hoping to finish early – say in a couple of weeks.
Next Sunday will be Morning Worship (10.30), led by Rev. Jason Taylor from Victoria Dock Church.

Notices week beginning 6 July 2008
Welcome to Morning Worship (+HC) in the chancel. This is a new form of service which I am introducing at short notice as an experiment this month, prior to our DCC meeting on 28/7. As some folk are away today, the services this month will now be: 13/7 Holy Communion (9.30)/Breakfast Club+ (10.30), 20/7 & 27/7 Morning Worship (+HC)(10.30). This means that there will be no Holy Communion (9.30) & no All Age Worship (10.30) on 4th Sunday. Do let me have your comments.
Healing ministry starts today with anointing with oil. As the rails have been removed from in front of the main altar to give more space, this ministry & Holy Communion will both be in the ladychapel. Some personal conclusion on Healing Ministry are for you to take home & read.
Happy birthday to Sanele Donga, who is 18 on Wednesday, and Nomsa's third son.
Funeral service of Doreen Hill will take place at St John's on Thursday (10th) at 12 noon. Tom will accompany Doreen to Chanterlands Crematorium at the end. Refreshments at The Reindeer for those who can stay on.
St John's remembered. Antoine is working on a combined DVD to include photos, music and interviews. He has brought his equipment today for more interviews after the service. An opportunity for you to have your say.
Growth Group meeting on Wednesday at Antoine & Jo's house (140 Summergangs) @ 7.30 p.m. All welcome - do come if you can.
Organised walks. Thurs 3rd July. Sun 13th July. Lunch (£5.25) and 2-3 mile walk at Burton Pidsea. Let Norman Pacey know if you are going (07749 485427). Sun 17 Aug. Walk round Hull Fish Trail. Note time changed from 6pm to 3pm.
Next Sunday. Holy Communion (9.30), Breakfast Club+ (10.30) NB. Ann is away next Sunday

Notices – week beginning 22/06/08
Phase 2. Great news that Phase 2 is due to start this week. A copy of the plans can be downloaded by clicking here. Halls will be back with us, and aiming to finish in 4-5 weeks. Most of the work will be outside this time (south side), so won’t disrupt us, but there will be some snagging work to be done inside as well from Phase 1. Then, hopefully on to Phase 3, which will mainly be our bid for lottery funding to do the roof.
Happy birthday Karl, who is 9 today (Sorry not to be with you - C)
True Colours. Forms for the final show (June 30th 6.30-8 pm) at the back of Church. Do complete, and leave on the table for Anne & Chris to collect.
PRADA. Following on immediately from True Colours, there will be evening events organized by Prada for children of all ages! Starting July 1st, there will be Tues: Salsa 6-7pm/Weds: Street Dance 5-7pm/Thurs: Boxercise 5.30-6.30pm/Fri: Musical theatre 5.30-7.30pm.
Growth Group meeting on Wednesday at Antoine & Jo’s house (140 Summergangs) @ 7.30 p.m. All welcome - do come if you can.
Enneagram Day. The second of our two Enneagram Days will be on Friday (27th) 10-4 pm. It should be a great day, and very informative (as was the last one). If you know nothing about Enneagram, it’s probably best to wait until the next opportunity – probably early October. Flyers on the table at the back.
Newsletter. I am committing to a newsletter in July for distribution in SWW (Southcoates West Ward), and would appreciate an article from YOU - please! Up to 200 words would be fine. This was discussed last year, but never happened. I’m thinking it’ll be two sides of A4 to reduce photocopying costs. PCC meeting on Monday (7.30pm) at St John’s.
Next Sunday Morning Worship service (10.30).

Churchwardens. Each year our Churchwardens are required to make certain statements of commitment in the presence of the Archdeacon. Sharon has already done hers. Steve will today (but without the Archdeacon). We’re grateful to both for all they do.
Next Sunday Ann & I are away, but Nick Whetton the prison chaplain will be with you instead. The services will be as usual – Holy Communion (9.30), All Age Worship (10.30). Happy birthday for that day to Karl Carter, who will be 9.
